Sustainable Haddon Heights invites you to visit them most Sundays from 9:30 am until 1pm at their booth “Sundays by Station with Sustainable Haddon Heights” located in the Haddon Heights Farmers’ Market. Most weeks, the group will be having demonstrations on various aspects of sustainability and gardening. Currently, the “Stop Using Plastic Bags” project is underway. Stop by the table after you make your purchases at the market. For each reusable bag you have used, receive an entry into the weekly contest to win a reusable produce bag. Due to demand for the bag, they now also have them for a donation of $3, less than cost, for anyone who wants them. Many people use the traditional reusable bags at the grocery store but then take many of the small plastic bags in the produce department. They are the least reused bags! These reusable produce bags take the place of the small plastic bags. Forgot your reusable bag, stop by the booth and get a free one to use shopping. It is yours to keep or you can return at a later date.

Join GMO Free NJ for a screening of the beautifully filmed documentary Deconstructing Supper, directed by Marianne Kaplan. In under an hour this little gem of a film takes us from a five star gourmet restaurant in Canada, to genetic engineering labs, down supermarket aisles, to farms across North America, through the UK, India and back again. Join members of the TriCounty Sustainable Alliance in a march for Clean Energy the Sunday just before the Democratic National Convention. Spend a beautiful day walking in Philadelphia with thousands of enthusiastic individuals helping improve our nation’s energy use. On Sunday July 24th noon to 3pm, supporters of clean energy will march to encourage our government to make 100% renewable energy a national priority. This march takes place the day before the Philadelphia Democratic National Convention begins. The TriCounty Sustainability Alliance has already joined over 350 other organizations to endorse the March for a Clean Energy Revolution. Your organization can sign up to endorse too at cleanenergymarch.org This peaceful protest march will be a family-friendly event with signs, costumes, songs, chants, and inspirational talks. The atmosphere will be joyous as thousands of like-minded individuals gather to share their vision of a safer world. Details are still being worked out, but expect this event to be similar to the 2014 New York City Climate March which had a carnival-like aura.
We need your help! More attendees means more media attention. We need you to sign up at cleanenergymarch.org sign up and plan to attend. In 2014, the Peoples Climate March in New York City, organizers expected 100,000 people, but got 400,000 instead. The Philadelphia Clean Energy March is expected to be smaller but with hundreds of endorsing organizations already, turnout could be terrific. We hope this will encourage politicians to put Sustainability on their agenda.

Join the South Jersey Land and Water Trust and the Tri-County Sustainability Alliance for a clean-up along the Newton Creek in Camden. Help remove debris that can harm our waterways, and help install bollards to prevent future dumping. This is a perfect volunteer event or people of all ages and backgrounds. Grabbers, bags, and gloves will be provided. Please dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes.

Network with other local sustainability enthusiasts. We will meet in a private room. Each participant pays for their own food and beverages. Event is free. No registration required. Over 30 people came out for our first Sustainability Sips at Uno’s on February 18th. We had a spacious room with a fireplace to ourselves and a dedicated waiter who promptly filled everyone’s food and drink orders. Lou Manchello, Deputy Mayor of Maple Shade welcomed everyone and introduced his attending Maple Shade Green Team members. We hope that this event will be just as successful.

We have two showings of this award winning documentary movie which explores the health and environmental dangers of plastic water bottles with a searing, in-depth look at the toxic chemicals used to make the plastic, the exploitation of water sources, and the devastating health impact of water bottle consumption.
