Join us on November to explore this fascinating area!\n\n\nThe trail may be wet\, so be sure to wear appropriate footwear. DESCRIPTION:Autumn is perhaps the loveliest time of the year at Tall Pines State Preserve. Join Michael Hogan and the South Jersey Land and Water Trust (SJLWT) for a leisurely late afternoon walk through the meadows of Tall Pines. This is a special time at Tall Pines. Not only are the trees and shrubs displaying their bright autumn colors\, but the meadows are alive with fall wildflowers- goldenrods (there are over 40 species native to the Northeast)\, bonesets\, great clumps of small white aster\, camphorweed and many more. This abundance of blooms draw a great variety of butterflies- the migrating monarch\, common buckeye\, painted lady\, red admiral and many species of skippers. Tall Pines is a great place for birding too. Over 140 species have been noted here so we’ll be on the lookout for fall migrants. Our volunteer artist will show you how to use the natural world as inspiration for your next work of art. We will explore with a curious eye seeking visual stimuli and natural materials to inspire creative projects. Our goal is to help you learn…and of course\, have fun along the way! Children MUST be 12 or older (or in 6th grade). Registration is REQUIRED for this trip. \nAbout Karen:\nKaren Fuchs graduated from Moore College of Art with a BFA in textile design. After having a weaving studio in Princeton\, NJ\, she worked professionally in interior architecture in NYC for several years selecting finishes and furniture for interiors\, taught color and materials at Pratt in Brooklyn and surface design at Douglass College/Rutgers. Karen now teaches art and design to children and adults\, and has developed curriculum that focuses on organic forms\, patterns and structures in nature. She leads workshops on integrating art and science\, design thinking\, STEAM education and making connections between the natural and the manmade world. She teaches at art museums\, schools\, arboretums\, historic parks\, and summer programs. SUMMARY:Petty’s Island Community Clean Up Day
DESCRIPTION:Petty’s Island is privately-owned and is in the midst of an amazing transformation from an active marine terminal and oil storage facility into a public park. Access to the island is limited\, so don’t miss this opportunity to see the island and help in its transformation. We will be doing a cleanup of the shoreline where marine debris threatens the health of wildlife and humans. Water and light refreshments served.\nChildren MUST be 12 and older to participate. Registration is REQUIRED for this event; space is limited. Directions and other details are given upon registration. \nHere’s your chance to be part of the restoration of Petty’s Island. Join our team of enthusiastic volunteers to help clean up and restore the shoreline of this majestic island as part of the larger restoration project taking place. This cleanup is great for scout\, religious\, after school and other civic groups looking for a local volunteer project. \nRegistration opens August 29.

SUMMARY:Matt's Landing Delaware Bay Nature Walk
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a guided tour of Delaware Bay/Heislerville Wildlife Management Area in Matt’s Landing\, Cumberland County! We’ll walk along trails that wind through pine-oak forests\, the Maurice River\, and large mudflats along the Delaware Bay. These areas provide varied habitat for songbirds\, wading birds\, and waterfowl. We’ll keep a lookout for Red-breasted Merganser and Bufflehead\, Hooded Merganser\, Ruddy Duck\, and large snow geese flocks in the salt marshes. Bald eagles\, kingfishers\, and ospreys are also common here\, so we’ll keep an eye out for them as well.\n\n\n \n\n\nAfter the walk will drive over to nearby Port Norris to walk PSEG’s wetlands walkway and see the giant Atlantic white Cedar that washed out of the mudflats. Last public restroom is Wawa on Rt. 47 in Mauricetown.\n\n\nPlease RSVP.\n\n\n\n\n\nDirections:\nWe will meet at the parking lot in Matts Landing. Take Rt. 55 south to Rt. 47 south\, continue 7.9 miles to right on Glade Road\, continue 1.5 miles to right on Main Street\, continue .7 miles to right on Matts Landing Road\, follow road to end\, look for my silver pickup truck. Other activities may require a minimal charge. \nThe expo will have more than 100 conservation and environmental exhibits\, demonstrations and seminars to highlight New Jersey’s outdoors heritage. \n“New Jersey’s outdoors provide many opportunities for families to connect through recreation\, sport and appreciating our abundant natural resources\,” Commissioner McCabe said. “The popularity of this annual event brings people of all ages together to not only appreciate the beauty of our environment\, but to learn about the latest conservation efforts\, try new activities and see some of our wildlife and marine life up close.” \nOne of the expo’s annual highlights is a giant mobile aquarium\, which will hold a variety of warm water game fish from the Charles O. Hayford State Fish Hatchery in Hackettstown.
