SUMMARY:Petty’s Island Community Clean Up Day
DESCRIPTION:Petty’s Island is privately-owned and is in the midst of an amazing transformation from an active marine terminal and oil storage facility into a public park. Access to the island is limited\, so don’t miss this opportunity to see the island and help in its transformation. We will be doing a cleanup of the shoreline where marine debris threatens the health of wildlife and humans. Water and light refreshments served.\nChildren MUST be 12 and older to participate. Registration is REQUIRED for this event; space is limited. Directions and other details are given upon registration. \nHere’s your chance to be part of the restoration of Petty’s Island. Join our team of enthusiastic volunteers to help clean up and restore the shoreline of this majestic island as part of the larger restoration project taking place. This cleanup is great for scout\, religious\, after school and other civic groups looking for a local volunteer project. \nRegistration opens August 29.

SUMMARY:Internationally reknown author and speaker\, John Dear
DESCRIPTION:This year’s first Thomas Berry Lecture will feature  John Dear\, internationally reknown author and speaker\, practitioner of non-violence. His talk is entitled “They Will Inherit the Earth.” Reception to follow. \nThis is a ticketed event. It is fund and friend raiser for CFET. Contact Cathy Nevins at canevins@verizon.net or at 856-816-6373 for more information\, and to find out how you and/or your business can be a sponsor! \nJohn Dear is the embodiment of a peacemaker\,” Archbishop Desmond Tutu wrote a few years ago when he nominated John for the Nobel Peace Prize. “He has led by example through his actions and in his writings and in numerous sermons\, speeches and demonstrations. He believes that peace is not something static\, but rather to make peace is to be engaged\, mind\, body and spirit. \nHis teaching is to love yourself\, to love your neighbor\, your enemy\, and to love the world and to understand the profound responsibility in doing all of these. He is a man who has the courage of his convictions and who speaks out and acts against war\, the manufacture of weapons and any situation where a human being might be at risk through violence. For evil to prevail requires only that good people sit on the sidelines and do nothing. John Dear is compelling all of us to stand up and take responsibility for the suffering of humanity so often caused through selfishness and greed.”

SUMMARY:Webinar: Strategically Maximizing the Energy Efficiency of Your Building Portfolio
DESCRIPTION:Combining New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program (NJCEP) incentives with a strategic vision can help schools and municipalities finance energy efficiency upgrades to their facilities. Planning efforts can start with Energy Tracking and Management to highlight current energy use. The next steps involve assessing energy upgrade projects and identifying available incentives from both NJCEP and utilities that can help bring projects from planning to implementation.\n\nFor the past four summers\, Sustainable Jersey has partnered with New Jersey Natural Gas and the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) to provide onsite technical energy assistance to local officials. This program has matched highly trained EDF Fellows with New Jersey schools and municipalities to identify energy savings opportunities through an individualized strategic approach.\n\nCome join us for this one hour webinar as this year’s EDF Fellows guide you through the process they used to help their clients address their unique energy needs. Learn how measuring current energy use and planning for energy efficiency can help your school or municipality identify opportunities for leveraging NJCEP and utility incentives to maximize potential energy savings — and cost savings — for your facilities.\n\nSpeakers:\n\nLauren Kaapcke\, EDF Fellow for Asbury Park\, Freehold Boro\, and Neptune Township\n\nSage Lang\, EDF Fellow for Little Egg Harbor Township School District\, Ocean Gate Boro\, and Little Egg Harbor Township\n\nErin Lannon\, EDF Fellow for Jackson Township School District\, Point Pleasant Beach Boro\, and Lake Como Boro\n\nPlease invite your colleagues and join us!
