SUMMARY:Pollinator Conservation Short Course - September 29
DESCRIPTION:This full day workshop will focus on concepts around protecting and enhancing populations of pollinators\, especially bees\, in agricultural landscapes. The course will provide an overview of bee natural history and farm practices that support pollinators\, such as protecting and creating habitat\, modified horticultural practices\, and advice on how to manage pests while protecting pollinators. In addition to receiving the latest cutting edge scientific findings\, course participants will conduct a field tour to practice identifying bees and their habitat. \nIntroductory topics include the principles of pollinator biology and integrated crop pollination\, the economics of insect pollination\, basic bee field identification\, and evaluating pollinator habitat. Advanced modules will cover land management practices for pollinator protection\, pollinator habitat restoration\, incorporating pollinator conservation into federal conservation programs\, selection of plants for pollinator enhancement sites\, management of natural landscapes\, and financial and technical resources to support these efforts. Throughout the short course these training modules are illustrated by case studies of pollinator conservation efforts across the country. \nRegistrants will receive the Xerces Society’s Pollinator Conservation Toolkit which includes Xerces’ book\, Attracting Native Pollinators. as well as habitat management guidelines and relevant USDA-NRCS and extension publications.  The cost is $45 and you can pre-order lunch of an additional $10.   Registration is required.

SUMMARY:Fun Times await at Clean Energy March
DESCRIPTION:Join members of the TriCounty Sustainable Alliance in a march for Clean Energy the Sunday just before the Democratic National Convention.  Spend a beautiful day walking in Philadelphia with thousands of enthusiastic individuals helping improve our nation’s energy use. On Sunday July 24th noon to 3pm\, supporters of clean energy will march to encourage our government to make 100% renewable energy a national priority. This march takes place the day before the Philadelphia Democratic National Convention begins. The TriCounty Sustainability Alliance has already joined over 350 other organizations to endorse the March for a Clean Energy Revolution.  Your organization can sign up to endorse too at cleanenergymarch.org   This peaceful protest march will be a family-friendly event with signs\, costumes\, songs\, chants\, and inspirational talks. The atmosphere will be joyous as thousands of like-minded individuals gather to share their vision of a safer world.  Details are still being worked out\, but expect this event to be similar to the 2014 New York City Climate March which had a carnival-like aura. \nWe need your help! More attendees means more media attention. We need you to sign up at cleanenergymarch.org  sign up and plan to attend. In 2014\, the NYC Climate March\, organizers expected 100\,000 people\, but got 400\,000 instead. The Philadelphia Clean Energy March is expected to be smaller but with hundreds of endorsing organizations already\, turnout could be terrific.  We hope this will encourage politicians to put Sustainability on their agenda. \nWe will be meeting up at PATCO to ride into the city as a group.  Check back for more details later.  For more information\, email Ed Cohen or call (609)217-1412.

DESCRIPTION:HIGHLIGHTS \nKeynote speaker is Dr. Benjamin Strauss\, Vice President for Sea Level and Climate Impacts at Climate Central. Mr. Strauss is a national expert and author of numerous scientific papers and reports on sea level rise. He appears often as an expert on national network news\, nationally syndicated radio and documentary television. He was a founding board member of Grist.org and the Environmental Leadership Program. Strauss co-organized the 1994 Campus Earth Summit\, and consulted to the Nathan Cummings Foundation on higher education and the environment.  An update to the 2015 report  will be released during the 2016 Sustainability Summit. \nFifteen concurrent sessions will be offered designed to give attendees an opportunity to focus on topics related to initiatives they are currently pursuing\, or hope to in the future. The sessions will provide the knowledge\, insights\, tools\, and contacts that can help you be more effective. \nNetwork with others committed to fostering a sustainable New Jersey. The registration fee covers the cost of continental breakfast and lunch. \nPreview Sustainable Jersey GOLD Standard. \nPreRegistration is required. DESCRIPTION:Join AmeriCorps Watershed Ambassador Alissa Ambacher to learn about biological stream monitoring!  During this fun workshop\, you will learn about the importance of watershed health as well as how to monitor the water quality of local streams. There will be an indoor\, informational portion at the Westville Community Center\, as well as an outdoor field experience session in a tributary of Big Timber Creek. \nPlease come dressed for the weather and the outdoors\, and ready to learn!  If you have waders or waterproof boots\, it is recommended that you bring them.  Participants will need to drive to the stream segment on the day of the event (approximately a half mile from the Center).\nMorning refreshments will be served.   Please BYO coffee cup/ mug. \nCall  Joyce Lovell at   856-456-2308 to register.
